San Bernard National Wildlife Refuge

This refuge along the Texas coast has a mix of marsh, prairie, and coastal habitat where gators are a common sight from the auto tour route and Moccasin Pond boardwalk. Fall through spring brings the best all-around wildlife viewing, gators included. The Moccasin Pond boardwalk lets you get close to the water without leaving a raised platform. As with any refuge, feeding wildlife is illegal.
