Sam Houston Jones State Park

Three rivers meet inside this park near Lake Charles, and the resulting sloughs and cypress backwaters are reliable gator habitat along the park's trails and boat launches. Warmer months bring the most activity. Trails run close to the water in places, so keep moving and keep back rather than stopping right at the bank. Paddlers should give any gator on the water a wide, unhurried berth.
