Jungle Gardens (Avery Island)
This private botanical garden on the Tabasco company's home island has a longstanding gator population around its lagoons and the Bird City egret rookery. Walk the garden paths slowly in warmer months and check the lagoon edges near Bird City, where gators sometimes patrol below the nesting birds. Stay on the paths; the grounds are landscaped but the water is real swamp. Never feed the animals.
