Stephen C. Foster State Park

This is the western gateway into the Okefenokee Swamp, with gators common along the boat trails and from the park's guided swamp tours. Guided boat tours are the best way to see deep into the swamp; keep hands and cameras inside the boat and let the guide manage distance. If you paddle your own canoe, stick to marked trails and give every gator you pass plenty of open water. Warmer months bring the most activity, though gators are visible here most of the year.
