Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge
One of the most studied alligator populations in the world lives on this coastal Louisiana refuge, with gators visible along the public roads and canals that cross the property. Warmer months bring the most animals out to bask on the banks. Some areas require permits or are seasonally closed for research and hunting programs, so check current access before planning a visit. Stay in the vehicle or well back from canal edges, and don't feed anything you see.
