Manchac Wildlife Management Area
This swamp and marsh WMA between Lakes Pontchartrain and Maurepas is classic Louisiana gator habitat, best explored by boat or kayak along the bayous and canals. Warmer months bring gators out onto logs and banks throughout the swamp. There are no boardwalks here, so most visitors view from a boat; keep well clear of any gator in the water and never paddle toward one. This is a working WMA with hunting seasons, so check dates before visiting.
