George L. Smith State Park
Built around a cypress-lined millpond with an old gristmill dam, this park is one of the most scenic gator spots in Georgia, with animals regularly seen from the pond's edge trails and rental canoes. Warmer months bring the most basking activity among the cypress knees. Paddling the pond gets you closest to the swamp scenery; keep a real distance from any gator in the water. The dam and mill make a good vantage point without getting near the bank.
