Aransas National Wildlife Refuge
Famous as the winter home of the whooping crane, this refuge's freshwater ponds along the auto tour loop and observation tower also hold gators most of the year. Spring through fall brings the most gator activity out on the pond banks. The observation tower gives a good elevated look over the ponds without getting close to the water. Feeding wildlife anywhere on the refuge is prohibited.
